Fort Lauderdale Florida fishing rpeort

Report Date: April 24, 2012

Been a while. Lost some of the reports this year? Just didn't post through.

We are into the start of peak season and today was a good test of what is coming. We landed a few nice Balckfin Tuna. One made it home for dinner reservations. The Sailfish were moving through with most boats seeing, hooking or catching them. We had one on that jumped off after a while but they were there. We needed to head in early and couldn't stay for more of the action. We did catch and relase a nice 20 pound Kingfish with the first bait out. A few more cut offs and stolen baits. Good action for the little time we spent.

We bottom fished on Sunday and had non stop action with smaller species. Yellowtail Snapper, Grouper, African Pompano and assorted Jacks and tropicals. All fish were relased since they are mostly undersize when we fish this way. It is a good style of fishing for the young children that need to keep busy.

Inshore the mullet are starting to move through. Lots of big Jack Crevalle attacking them along the shoreline and in the inlet. A few Tarpon jumping in too. The Barracuda are set up at the ambush points and a nice fresh live bait will always make them jump on it.

Great time of year to be on the water. Nice weather most days, good temps. Pick your lucky day and give it a try.

Sea Ya,
Captain Ron Mallet
