Fort Lauderdale Florida Offshore Deep Sea fishing report

Report Date: March 8, 2010

We are having one of the coldest winters I can remember since moving here in 1980. I know you get it worse up north but I didn't bargain for this when I came this far south. Lots of cool temps and lots of west wind has kept the fishing action scattered and tough. During most of my trips over the last week we had to work for a few fish and paitience was tested. A few Sailfish, Tuna and Dolphin were had by the lucky ones but it was a test of confidence to get the bite.

I did score good with the ever present Barracuda's inshore though. They were hungry and jumped quickly all over the live baits. We used it as plan B a few days and the anglers were happy with the fast action and agressive hits they showed us.

The winds have finally shifted to the North East and East today and that will help to get the fish closer in and more targetable. Once they settle in to the regular pattern and routine I will be able to use experience again and not only luck. The bite always gets better as we enter each new week this time of year. Don't get cautious of what has happened lately, get excited about what will happen each new day.

Sea Ya,
Captain Ron Mallet
