Fort Lauderdale Florida fishing report

Report Date: April 7, 2009

We are into April and yesterday it showed. The big Kingfish were all over our baits. The chunky Gogs didn't last long in the kite. Smoker Kings in the 20-40 pound range made quick work of the frisky baits splashing on top. The flat line spinning rods had a good showing too. We even had a 40 pounder whack a smaller King in half at the side of the boat.

I did hear of a few Dolphin moving through and a scattered Sail or two. The Bonita were mixed in with the Kings but they couldn't compete with the bite going on. We landed a couple of Cero Mackerel in between the big ones and had a few mystery bites too. It looks like one of our last cold fronts are on us and this should signal the migration of the fish masses to the north for the summer. Over the next month or so we should get some awesome days on the water here. This is what we all wait for and it is on us. Don't miss it if you have the chance.

Sea Ya,
Captain Ron Mallet
