Fort Lauderdale Florida fishing report
Report Date: February 3, 2009
We are getting our share of winter this week. Okay, it is not the temps you are getting up north but our 40 degree mornings really get attention here!
Even though we would rather fish in shorts and T's we welcome the cold weather. It has been on the slow side over the last few weeks due to warm water and the slow movement of fish into our area. The current pattern has brought a few new targets into the zone tough. Sailfish are starting to make another appearance with a few Kingfish mixed in too. The Dolhpin are heading south fast but they will stop to eat your baits if you are in thier path. Bonita action is light now but the Mackrel are cooperating in closer to shore.
The best bite has come with live baits. When the breeze is up the kite is the weapon of choice. The inshore scene is made up of mostly Barracuda and Jack Crevalle. A few Tarpon are in the area but not very hungry. As we get deeper into winter the bite will grow while more fish head south for the winter.
Sea Ya,
Captain Ron
