Fort Lauderdale Florida fall fishing reports

Report Date: September 28, 2008

The change of weather is upon us. This means that the fall run of fish heading south is just starting. The bait lead off the move and gamefish follow. I am seeing lots of mullet in the harbor and inlet. They are stalked by Jack Crevalle, Barracuda, Tarpon and Snook to name a few. Pick a day when the feed is on and any one of the above can jump your bait.

The offshore scene is changing too. The Kingfish bite has been shallower then usual. I guess they are up on the ridges taking advantage of the bait moving through. Some decent size ones too. The Dolhpin are holding further out and the key is to find some clean water and debris. Most boats putting in time are getting a few meals. Don't go too far, start looking as soon as blue water and structure appear.

This pattern will become more consistent as we head deeper into fall. As the weather cools north we get the hotter bites here.

Sea Ya,
Captain Ron Mallet
